After Taylor Swift promoted Hugh Jackman’s movie, Deadpool, the actor was so over-the-moon that he didn’t notice when he made a very specific Swiftie history reference
Hugh Jackman made an accidental Swiftie reference when he celebrated a shoutout from Taylor Swift.
The star is promoting his new movie Deadpool & Wolverine with Ryan Reynolds which hit theaters July 25. He found himself an ally in the pop star, who is a longtime friend of Ryan’s wife Blake Lively, when Taylor sent the movie release some well wishes on Instagram.
Taylor has been a bestie to Hugh, as well, and made that very clear in her kind post. She posted a group picture and wrote: “Over the past few years I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film. He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portrayal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich.”
She continued: “I don’t know how he did it. But that’s just Hugh for you! These other randoms crashed the photo and we were too polite to ask them to leave.”
The iconic actor reposted the story to his own, writing, “I [heart emoji] TS!!!” To the average fan, this might just seem like a normal response, but eagle-eyes Swifties can recognize the phrase from her past. One fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “I [heart emoji] TS. unintentionally hilarious of him.”
The phrase, to a Swiftie brain, references a moment Taylor shared with her ex-boyfriend, Tom Hiddleston. While the very public couple were seen on a beach date, the actor wore a white, t-shirt, dripping in water. On it was printed, “I [heart emoji] T.S.” At the time, fans loved the display of affection, especially since they heralded Tom as one of the better of her exes.
Ryan also re-posted Taylor’s kind words. “Omg, this may have just killed [Hugh Jackman],” he wrote. Hugh yet again reposed it, adding a “100” gif.
Taylor included a link to buy tickets to the movie and made a reference to Ryan, too. She wrote, “Shoutout to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor!” Taylor is known for being particularly close with Blake and Ryan’s children as she even has written their names into her songs on Folklore.
