NCIS star Michael Weatherly has revealed what he thought of High School Musical when Zac Efron opened up about the Disney film days before its release.
The police procedural drama is now in its 22nd season, with a 23rd season confirmed for later this year.
Additionally, the prequel series NCIS Origins has been renewed for a second season, and fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming spin-off NCIS Tony and Ziva, which will see Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprise their roles.
Weatherly has worked with numerous notable actors during his time on NCIS, including Colin Hanks, Abigail Breslin, and Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family.
Zac Efron, star of The Greatest Showman, also appeared on the show in 2006, shortly before his breakout role as Troy Bolton in High School Musical.
Efron played a minor character named Daniel Austin, who found himself in trouble with the NCIS team.
In a 2012 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Weatherly recalled Efron’s appearance on the show, saying: “We had Zac Efron in season three playing a teenager we busted with a stolen cell phone with his buddy and immediately started to hit on Cote De Pablo’s character Ziva on-camera.
“He was telling us about this High School Musical thing he did for Disney. We were like, ‘Oh, isn’t that cute?'”
High School Musical soared to global fame as the first TV movie soundtrack to hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart, with the franchise raking in a whopping $1.39 billion at the domestic box office.
The film catapulted not just Zac Efron but also Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, and Corbin Bleu to stardom.
Flashforward to the present, Efron is juggling several new gigs including Famous, Judgement Day, The Studio, and a fresh take on the classic Three Men And A Baby.
