‘Has the Feel of Early Grey’s Anatomy’: The Boys Actor Teases His Netflix Medical Drama Series

Jessie T. Usher recently discussed Netflix’s upcoming series Pulse, likening its feel to the early seasons of ABC’s acclaimed, long-running medical drama series, Grey’s Anatomy. Usher, most well-known for playing the superhero A-Train in the fan-favorite Prime Video series The Boys, will play the Emergency Medicine Resident Sam Elijah in Pulse.

Usher made the Grey’s Anatomy comparison in an interview with Screen Rant. The actor refused to give away key story points but called the upcoming Netflix show sexy, romantic, and dramatic. He also expressed that Pulse was a nice change of pace from his experience filming The Boys. “Yeah, Pulse is a medical drama, so Netflix, it’ll be airing sometime this spring,” he began. “I play Dr. Elijah. I can’t give away story points on it, but it has the feel of early Grey’s Anatomy. It’s sexy, and it’s romantic, and it’s dramatic in a lot of ways. It was one heck of an experience.”

Usher continued, “It’s the polar opposites from The Boys, so that was nice. I didn’t realize how dark and twisted my filmmaking mind had been until I got over to a show where we’re saving people instead of killing them. So, it’s just nice to flip the switch. Yeah, it’s a nice break. ‘Well, we’re saving lives instead of taking them. Thank god. Okay, I forgot people still do that on TV.'”

Pulse, which marks Netflix’s first foray into the medical drama space, follows the staff of Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center as they navigate medical emergencies, as young ER doc Danny Simms, played by Willa Fitzgerald, is unexpectedly promoted to Chief Resident amidst the fallout of her own provocative romantic relationship. Alongside Usher and Fitzgerald, Pulse stars Colin Woodell, Jack Bannon, Chelsea Muirhead, Daniela Nieves, Jessy Yates, Justina Machado, Jessica Rothe, Néstor Carbonell, Arturo Del Puerto, and Ash Santos.

Zoe Robyn (The Equalizer) and Carlton Cuse (LostJack Ryan), who serve as showrunners and executive producers, created Pulse. Bradley Garner, Emma Forman, and Michael Klick are also executive producers. Kate Dennis (New AmsterdamThe Handmaid’s Tale) will direct and executive produce the first two episodes.

Jessie T. Usher Will Return For The Boys Season 5

Following rumors of his exit, fans were initially worried Usher would not return for The Boys‘ final season. However, a BTS photo dropped late last year revealing the actor having dinner with his cast mates to celebrate the start of filming on the series finale that showrunner Eric Kripke has dubbed “The Last Ride.”

Netflix is yet to schedule a release date for Pulse, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2025.
