‘Gutted’: NCIS: Hawai’i Star Reacts to Series Getting Cancel

NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey opens up about the series’ abrupt cancelation. She also says that the move “blindsided” her.

Per Deadline, Lachey responded to the news of NCIS: Hawai’i’s cancelation on social media. “Gutted, confused, blindsided,” Lachey wrote in her Instagram story. “Grateful, confident, beloved fan!” Lachey added, “Processing this news and still being present with my family. I love you all! Maholo Nui Loa.”

Lachey has portrayed Special Agent-in-Charge Jane Tennant throughout NCIS: Hawai’i’s three season run. Tori Anderson, who played DIA Officer turned FBI Agent Kate Whistler on the series, also discussed the series’ cancelation. NCIS: Hawai’i Will Have a Three Season Run

While the NCIS franchise as a whole has its roots as a spin-off of the long-running JAG starring David James Elliott, Catherine Bell, and Tracey Needham, the former has undeniably cemented itself as its own separate media entity. Recently the franchise celebrated a major milestone in the form of its 1,000th episode, Season 21’s “A Thousand Yards,” which premiered on CBS on April 15.

Less than a week prior to the episode’s release, CBS confirmed that NCIS had been renewed for a 22nd season. In a statement regarding the renewal of NCIS and fellow CBS show The Neighborhood, Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach stated that the two series are “the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama… They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics.” Among CBS’ other series that have received renewal orders are NCIS: Sydney, the latest addition to the franchise starring Olivia Swann and Todd Lasance which premiered in 2023. Also renewed were FBI, FBI: International, and FBI: Most Wanted. While these procedurals have all been given the green light, two of the network’s biggest sitcoms in Bob Hearts Abishola and Young Sheldon have both been confirmed as in their final seasons.
