Grey’s Anatomy: A Lie Divides Meredith and Nick as the Past Brings New Complications for Another Couple

Warning: this story contains spoilers from the March 20 episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Honesty was the name of the game on Grey’s Anatomy!

On the March 20 episode of the hit ABC medical drama series, the doctors of Grey Sloan were at odds about whether they should move forward with Tasha’s liver transplant in light of them discovering Evynn Moore’s (Lena Waithe) deception about her Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) insisted that they should move forward with transplant while Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) weren’t so sure.

“When you look at Tasha, you see a possible future me. I don’t need saving,” Meredith told Nick but he shot back, “Not everything is about you.”

He then suggested they do their own neuro work-up before denying Tasha “life saving treatment based on another hospital’s diagnosis” and discuss the case with Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone).

Meredith didn’t take kindly to the suggestion, saying, “You don’t trust that I know what this looks like. This is my life’s work.”

New Complications
Unbeknownst to Meredith and Nick, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben Warren (Jason George) discovered their patient Lisa was also in need of a liver transplant.

When they approached Meredith about speaking to Nick about a liver transplant, she assumed they were talking about Tasha and informed them, “We’re still waiting for the committee to decide whether to allocate liver to another patient.”

After Bailey insisted the allocation of liver was none of their “business,” Ben then went behind her back to answer the committee’s questions about Lisa’s case. When Nick asked how he knew the committee was meeting, Meredith said, “I told them. It’s not exactly a secret.”

Once he learned that Lisa would be receiving the liver, Nick told Meredith, “I don’t get it. You made a career out of finding ways around protocols. I don’t get it.”

“It was the ethical thing to do,” she responded and he added, “Then you can go tell Evynn, her wife’s not getting the liver.”

The news fueled Evynn’s ire and she told Meredith, “I think you’re so focused on your research you’ve forgotten about the people living with it.”

“That’s not true,” Meredith countered and Evynn insisted, “You helped hand her a death sentence.”

The weight of Tasha’s diagnosis continued to weigh on Nick and he came up with a solution that allowed both her and Lisa to get the transplants they needed by dividing the liver in two. While discussing Evynn after the surgery, Richard told Meredith, “I didn’t agree with what she did, but I understand it. She was in a tough spot.”

“She did what she thought was best given the circumstances, and I know you did too,” he added, referring to Meredith’s own secret about Catherine’s health struggles. Meredith also received an apology from Evynn.

Nick later admitted that he didn’t see Meredith in Tasha but he “saw myself in Evynn,” adding, “You just gotta know that if I were in our position, I wouldn’t stop fighting for you.”

“I wouldn’t either,” Meredith replied. “I can’t imagine my life without you.”

Taking a Risk
After Benson “Blue” Kwan’s (Harry Shum Jr.) declaration of love to his ex-fiancée Molly (Dianne Doan), their newfound bliss was short-lived due to Molly experiencing a seizure.

Blue later suggested that Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) could do a “work-up” of Molly while on the neurosurgery service. He agreed but added, “If we get caught, I’m throwing you under the bus.”

After Blue learned Molly has had seizures since her accident, they were discovered by Amelia — but, surprisingly, she offered to help them.

Molly later shut down Amelia’s suggestion that surgery was her best option but Blue insisted that she move forward with it. He said, “You can’t let your fears get in the way of your future.” He was promptly removed from Molly’s case, but later pressed Lucas about what was happening. He said, “She’s not a patient. She’s the love of my life.”

After playing coy about if he told her, Lucas then gave him a bit of advice. “Brain surgery is terrifying. I wouldn’t want to do it if I didn’t know who was waiting on the other side.”

Later Molly surprised Blue by suggesting she wanted to undergo an experimental surgery that would allow her to regain her memories. She said, “More than stopping my seizures, more than anything, I want to remember you.”

Revisiting the Past
Cass Beckman (Sophia Bush) returned to Grey Sloan and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) was thrilled to see her — especially when she offered to help her with a big presentation.

In Teddy’s office, the two shared a moment — following their unexpected kiss earlier this season — after Cass suggested that they each deserve a spa day for their hard work.

Later, Teddy tried to get the spa day on the calendar, but Cass turned her down, saying, “I don’t think that’s a good idea…I’m trying to respect your boundaries.”

As the episode concluded, Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) admitted his childhood friend Nora tried to kiss him when she visited the hospital, but insisted “nothing happened.”

He added, “I pulled away and I didn’t want you to get upset for no reason.” However, he revealed that Nora has continued to text him.

Teddy then revealed her own secret, saying, “I also want to be honest with you. I bumped into Cass today…I think I might be attracted to her.”

“What does that mean?” Owen asked, to which Teddy replied, “I don’t know.”

After proclaiming their love to each other, she questioned, “What’s gonna happen with us?” He couldn’t give her an answer, but the pair embraced each other.
