With only two weeks left for the contestants on “Hell’s Kitchen,” the competition heated up this week as the four remaining chefs fought for their spot in the top three.
This week’s challenge had the chefs prepare and serve their own signature dish tableside for four tables of executive chefs from restaurants at Foxwoods. Alta Strada’s Preston Mitchell, Golden Dragon’s Todd Sicolo, Cedars Steak & Oysters’ Michael Yaffe and David Burke Prime’s Matt O’Neill were the featured executive chefs who had to rank each contestant’s dish from No. 1 to No. 4.
With only 15 minutes to serve each table, Hannah served a whiskey miso caramel scallop, Egypt whipped up a lobster bisque fra diavolo, Whit crafted a caprese with corn and crab succotash and Kyle made langoustine with a coconut lemongrass broth.
With a resounding 75% of first-place votes, Kyle won the challenge and earned a day at the Mystic Seaport Museum and voyage by boat on the Mystic River. Similar to last week’s challenge, Gordon Ramsay allowed Kyle to pick one other chef to accompany him, which ended up being Whit.
Hannah and Egypt had to prep the dining room for the evening’s dinner service, which featured country singer Mickey Guyton as a special guest for the night.
The twist for dinner service was that each chef got the opportunity to do their best Ramsay impersonation by running the kitchen and commanding the other chefs. As each chef took to the pass, Ramsay was purposefully sabotaging dishes that ranged from switching ingredients to bringing up the wrong dish to see if the chefs would catch the mistakes before they were sent out to dinners.
Though all chefs performed well commanding the kitchen, only Whit and Kyle caught all of Ramsay’s sabotage attempts. However, while in the kitchen, Whit lashed out against the other contestants for missing ingredients at her station as she messed up the carbonara.
While Ramsay believed she was a “powerhouse” of a chef, Whit was let go from Hell’s Kitchen as Egypt, Hannah and Kyle moved ahead to the final three.
Episode 15 airs on Thursday, Jan. 30, and will stream on Hulu starting Friday, Jan. 31. The penultimate epsiode will also be shown at a Foxwoods watch party and Q&A on Jan. 30 with select contestants of the show. Current competitor Kyle as well as former contestants this season, chefs Whit, Joe and Uri will be present.
