The Northern Irish actor has revealed that he hates modelling, despite the fact that it is a lucrative job. The 41-year-old actor said that a day’s salary for a famous fashion brand can be up to nearly $13,000 (equivalent to nearly 320 million VND).
Although he once reached the peak of his career as a male model, Jamie Dornan always felt dissatisfied with modeling work, he did not like being constantly photographed by others.
“Honestly, I hate being photographed. I spent 10 years doing this job, I was paid and forced to pose in the most photogenic way for people to take my picture. It was the job I chose. I did it and tried to find joy in it as long as I could. To this day, after giving up modelling, I still hate being photographed,” Dornan confided.
Jamie Dornan dropped out of college to compete in a reality TV show that was looking for young models. When he auditioned for Model Behaviour , he almost didn’t make it. At 19, Dornan was a young man who was confused about the direction of his life.
He didn’t want to continue his university studies, but he didn’t know what he wanted to do next. He just knew he wanted to do something else. At that time, his family was very worried about Dornan because they saw that he was quite lethargic and neglected everything.
It was his sister who encouraged Dornan to try out for the reality TV show Model Behaviour . Later, modeling opened the door for Dornan to pursue an acting career.
Appearing on the British TV show Model Behaviour , Jamie Dornan was not an outstanding contestant, but this show helped open up a brilliant modeling career for him. Officially starting his modeling career since 2001, with his masculine appearance, young Jamie Dornan quickly attracted fashion brands.
In 2015, Dornan was voted by Vogue (USA) as one of the 25 most famous male models of all time.
In addition to modeling, Dornan has tried his hand at singing. He performed in the band Sons of Jim until 2008.
Dornan began pursuing an acting career in 2006. He has appeared in television series such as Once Upon a Time (2011-2013), The Fall (2013-2016), The Tourist (2022-present).
In the film industry, Dornan has acted in films such as Marie Antoinette (2006), the Fifty Shades series (2015-2018), Anthropoid (2016), The Siege of Jadotville (2016), A Private War (2018), Belfast (2021)…
Notably, Dornan revealed that he had to move back to the countryside for a while because he felt too embarrassed after appearing in the movie Fifty Shades of Grey (2015).
The film cost only $40 million to make, but grossed $570 million. Despite its impressive box office numbers, the film left Dornan feeling miserable. Fifty Shades of Grey is filled with “hot” scenes and appeals to the public mainly because of its “hot” content. Dornan’s performance in the film was heavily criticized by critics, which left him feeling devastated and ashamed.
Understanding this, the film’s female director – Mrs. Sam Taylor-Johnson – lent him her country house so that Dornan and his family could temporarily “hide” there, helping him temporarily forget the humiliation after appearing in a film adapted from an… erotic novel.
“Honestly, I had to go into hiding. My wife and children and I decided to temporarily live in seclusion until the reactions died down. Before that, I was seen as a potential actor, I had been nominated for a number of awards, and then suddenly I was made a laughing stock. So my family decided to go to the countryside to live for a while to be able to temporarily get away from everything,” Dornan recalled.
Faifty Shades of Grey (2015) is the first part of a three-part series. Dornan will continue to appear in the next two films, as agreed in his previous contract.
Even now, as Dornan has landed more critically acclaimed roles, he still has to accept that people keep asking him about the Fifty Shades series , which is full of “hot” scenes. Dornan insists that he has no regrets about appearing in this series, despite having a crisis period because of the film.
Dornan revealed that he had gone through a lot of pain in his life. He lost his mother at the age of 16 due to a serious illness. Shortly after, four of his close friends died in a traffic accident.
Dornan’s father, a prominent obstetrician in Northern Ireland, died during the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of his experiences, for Dornan, nothing that happens in life is too serious and insurmountable.
