General Hospital History: The Truth Behind What They Got Right – and What They Missed!

There was a lot of history recalled but was it all correct?
General Hospital squeezed a lot of history into one episode. It was a wonderful walk down memory lane, but one recollection felt slightly off.
Was That How It Happened?
Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) were the young super-couple of their time. Now that the son of Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura (Genie Francis) has returned to Port Charles, he and Liz are falling back in love, and all is right with the world. It has been fun watching flashbacks of their younger years.

Elizabeth was in a terrible car crash and is recovering at GH. While Lucky sat at her bedside, waiting for her eyes to open, he confessed his love. He told her he loved her from the moment they met. But did he? If we go back in time, it is easy to remember that Lucky really had a crush on Liz’s sister, Sarah (ex-Jennifer Sky). He wasn’t interested in Liz when they first met. When she was raped, he found her and took care of her, which was how they bonded. It was a beautiful love story that grew slowly as Elizabeth healed and they helped each other through difficult times. It was true love, but it was not love at first sight.
That Was How It Happened
Elsewhere in Port Charles, there was another discussion of the past. Anna (Finola Hughes) arrested her granddaughter Emma (Braedyn Bruner) for chaining herself to the Quartermaine crypt. When asked to explain her actions, Emma gave very clear reasons why she feels protective of the Qs.
She explained that her mom told her that Edward (the late John Ingle) saved her life when she was young. Many residents of Port Charles were poisoned, and Tracy stole the antiserum to give to her father. Edward refused to take it and insisted that it be given to Emma to save her life. This did happen. Edward was a tough old guy, but could also be very caring. He really stepped up for Anna’s granddaughter.

Emma also recalled how well Alan (the late Stuart Damon) cared for Robin (ex-Kimberly McCullough). He was the one who gave her the news that she was HIV positive. It was a very dark time, and GH was brave in telling the story of Robin and her boyfriend, Stone (ex-Michael Sutton), who eventually died from AIDS. Alan was extremely caring and helpful to Robin during that time in her life, and she never forgot it. She shared her story with her daughter and also revealed that Alan was the inspiration for her to become a doctor.
Robin’s stories helped Emma feel aligned with the Quartermaines, which is why she went out of her way to help them. This touched Anna, and she may be on her way to understanding Emma.
