We certainly did not expect to wake up this morning to this news, but it looks like Charles Mesure is out at General Hospital as Brennan, and One Life to Live and The Young and the Restless alum Chris Mckenna is in!
The news was reported by Soap Opera Digest, receiving confirmation from the show not just that the switch was true, but that Mesure had decided to leave the ABC sudser of his own accord. What’s more, fans have already seen the actor’s final airing on General Hospital last Thursday, as Carly and Jack grew closer to each other on a romantic rooftop date.
Mckenna, SOD reports will debut in the role on Tuesday, February 4th — tomorrow. The actor, who began his career playing a young Joey Buchanan on One Life to Life from 1990 to 1993, has kept more than busy over the years. His last foray in daytime was guest starring as a doctor on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2016.
Before that, though, he’d won fans’ hearts over playing The Young and the Restless‘ Detective Mark Harding. But those same hearts were subsequently broken when it was revealed the detective was a crooked cop and a murderer and was, eventually, shot dead by then police commissioner Paul. McKenna exited the role with Mark’s death in 2015.
Mesure, of course, first brought Jack (sometimes known as John) Brennan to Port Charles a little over a year ago, in December of 2023 as the director of the World Security Bureau (WSB). He’s straddled the line between villain and charming rogue ever since, working with Valentin at Pikeman, gunning for Sonny and flirting with Carly. And now, just as it looks like he’s decided the gloves are off with Valentin and it’s time to take things to the next level with Carly, Mesure has stepped down and Mckenna stepped in.
“Charles Mesure opted to exit the role of Brennan,” a show rep told SOD. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. General Hospital looks forward to continuing Brennan’s exciting storyline with Chris McKenna in the role.”
We wish Mesure all the best as he moves forward and, while we’re sad to see him go, we’re sure McKenna will do an amazing job pickup Brennan up next!
