A woman has gone viral after sharing her realisation that adult social life isn’t what she expected, based on what she’s seen on TV shows.
Chelsea Torres, a mum from Honolulu, Hawaii, took to Instagram to share a video of herself enjoying a peaceful breakfast alone at home. The caption above her read: “Adults having breakfast at a friend’s apartment before heading off to work is the biggest lie television ever told me.”
She captioned the post “the show Friends really set me up for failure,” referring to the globally popular sitcom which often depicted the characters casually dropping by each other’s apartments throughout the day.
Reflecting on the unrealistic expectations set by such on-screen friendships, one user commented: “Seriously! Breakfast at each other apartments, lunch at a coffee shop that’s nowhere near work, or being a chef who never worked nights.”
Another agreed, writing: “Adults having actual friends is the biggest lie they taught us,” and: “You’re telling me someone got up early, showered, got dressed, did their hair, put on a whole suit and walked a block over to his sisters apartment that was never locked and then just raids their fridge for food in the morning and even rushed in and out because they are late and don’t think they should just go straight to work like a normal person? Why don’t they just go straight to work like a normal person?”
