In a recent interview with W Magazine, Dakota Johnson candidly shared insights about her life and career. The Fifty Shades of Grey star revealed that her parents did not encourage her to become an actress.
She recalled that her father, Don Johnson, once told her mother, Melanie Griffith, that he didn’t want their daughter to become an actress. Moreover, both of her parents were against Dakota pursuing acting too early because they wanted her to have a complete childhood.
However, Dakota revealed that she was always driven to become a professional actress after witnessing her parents’ work. Because of their careers, Dakota spent her entire childhood on various film sets. She said, “My parents always worked with amazing artists, and I loved that. So, I really pushed myself to be like them.”
Dakota Johnson is considered part of Hollywood’s “royal family” of actors. Her family is a long line of star-studded fame: her grandmother, Tippi Hedren, was a Hollywood icon during the golden age; her grandfather, Peter Griffith, was a famous child actor; and both her parents, Don Johnson (a 1980s sex symbol) and Melanie Griffith, are Hollywood veterans from the same era.
Dakota’s first film was Crazy in Alabama, and since then, she has appeared in nearly 30 films. She is best known for her role as Anastasia Steele in the first two parts of Fifty Shades of Grey and as Anastasia Grey in Fifty Shades Freed.
Additionally, Dakota Johnson has also worked in television and participated in music video projects.
