Ellen Pompeo’s Rare Red Carpet Date Night Has Grey’s Anatomy Fans Talking

Ellen Pompeo has a busy work schedule, but she found some time to enjoy a night out with someone she loves dearly.

The Grey’s Anatomy alum is gearing up for the March 19 premiere of her Hulu series Good American Family, but she managed to have a rare date night with her husband Chris Ivery. The couple was on hand to attend the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on March 2, and fans were certainly surprised to see the married duo get all dressed up for a star-studded occasion.

Ditching her once-signature hospital scrubs, Ellen went chic in a classic long-sleeved, body-hugging black gown. She took her look in a sultry direction with the dress’ deep v-neckline, along with simple jewelry to let the dress speak for itself. Adding to the drama of the entire look, Ellen wore smoky brown eyeshadow, bold eyeliner and peach-colored lipstick to pull everything together.

As for Chris, he made sure to match his wife by wearing a debonair black three-piece suit. He accented Ellen’s look with a white shirt, black tie, a bejeweled broach and black fur coat. The couple looked picture perfect for Hollywood’s biggest night — and they certainly looked incredible on the red carpet.

When highlights from Ellen and Chris’ date began circulating online, people couldn’t get enough of seeing the couple all dolled up for the best reason.
One person wrote on one Instagram post. “I hope that man @chrisjivery knows just how lucky he is!” another commented on another Instagram photo.

Well, this is definitely the perfect parents’ night out! As the couple are busy raising their kids (daughters Stella Luna and Sienna May, along with son Eli Christopher), Ellen is also experiencing how her kids feel about her past acting work. As she shared with People on February 27, Stella has watched Grey’s Anatomy — and had some thoughts about a particularly viral scene involving her mother.

“Double-oh seven,” Ellen disclosed, referencing the heart-wrenching season 5 moment between her character Meredith Grey and George O’Malley (T.R. Knight). “Which, by the way, my daughter had the same reaction when she saw the 007. She literally cried,” Pompeo says. “I had to film it and I couldn’t hold it together.”

Well, we definitely can see why!
