Bryce Durfee opened up about his career path and how he tried out for GH several times over the years.
In a turn that seems to have been lifted right out of the Jennifer Garner series Alias, the World Security Bureau (WSB) recruited college student Josslyn Jacks as their newest agent on General Hospital. But spies aren’t born. They’re created. As such, the show will soon introduce Joss’ handler, Vaughn, played by Bryce Durfee. Durfee recently revealed that he almost ended up playing another character who is now a fan favorite.
A Spy is Born
Watching Joss become molded into a super spy like Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) is going to be super fun. Several spy characters have been on the show, such as Anna, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), and Frisco Jones (Jack Wagner), over the years. But Frisco left Port Charles and went off to join the WSB and become a secret agent, getting his training off-screen.
In 2024, the Bureau created a field office in Port Charles with Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) as its Station Chief. As such, we’re on the ground floor watching a spy, Joss, get molded into an efficient espionage agent. Vaughn is going to be guiding her, and Dufree told Soap Opera Digest about his journey to becoming a soap actor.
He Aired His Dirty Laundry
Durfee explained that acting was not on his radar. He started out as a model, and as his career grew, he started getting roles after being advised by legendary film director Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, 1987) to take acting classes. Over the years, Durfee auditioned many times for GH, and the one that got away was for the character of Harrison Chase. His friend Josh Swickard ultimately got the part and has been beloved by the fans ever since.
The actor remarked, “Josh is absolutely fantastic, and I was really excited to run into him on set [at GH] recently.” Durfee was a little nervous at first to play Vaughn, due to the fast pace of daytime TV productions. But he had just completed a different project and was raring to go. He noted that the first day on set, “Kind of felt like I got thrown into a washing machine, and I got spit out an hour later [laughs].”
We’re excited to meet his character and see how this new, exciting phase of intrigue and espionage plays out on the show!
