For those of you who voted that Fifty Shades of Grey was a Don’t, one husband agreed with you so much, his wife divorced him.
Well, you might not have had the same reasoning as the husband in question, but really, after cropping up everywhere and inspiring everything from sex toys to cookbooks, the ubiquitous naughty book has now been cited as cause for divorce for one couple.
A 41-year-old banker in England filed for divorce from her husband, claiming “unreasonable behavior” as evidenced by his “boring attitude” toward sex. She claims she bought Fifty Shades of Grey hoping it would help spice up their love life after a rut in which her husband supposedly forgot Valentine’s Day and never complimented her. When she became “fed up” with her husband’s refusal to change, he “went ballistic” and blamed it all on her “reading that bloody book.” To be fair, there’s no word on whether he disapproved of its sexy themes, or he couldn’t just take one more discussion of her inner goddess. Oh my.
Well, that’s sad for everyone involved, it really is. But seriously, if the international Fifty Shades of Grey obsession hadn’t already jumped the shark, this would be its moment. Books don’t cause divorce, divorcing people cause divorce!
