The “Friends” theme song has not exactly been there for David Schwimmer over the years.
Speaking on the new podcast by Matt Lucas and David Walliams, the star revealed that hearing the theme — performed by The Rembrandts and released as a single in 1995 — across 10 seasons of the hit show and beyond had been more than enough.
“I’ll be really honest, there was a time for quite a while that just hearing the theme song would really… ” he explained, unable to describe the feeling. “I just had that reaction. I mean, I just had heard it so many times.”
even after “Friends” ended in 2004, the theme would still follow Schwimmer around.
“Any time you’d go on a show or a talk show or an interview, that would be your intro song,” he said. “So I just didn’t have the greatest response to it.
Schwimmer also admitted that he didn’t watch “Friends” after leaving the show.
“For me, it’s like, I did it, I’m moving on. I don’t really go back and revisit,” he said, adding that he only started re-watching the show once his daughter Cleo “discovered it around age 9 or something.”
He added: “I’d be making breakfast or whatever and I’d hear my kid’s laughter. My whole relationship to that song and to the show changed.”
Schwimmer most recently appeared as a regular in the second season of “Goosebumps.”
