The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ trilogy (2015-1018), based on the successful erotic novels of the same name by E.L. James, will not be remembered for its cinematic quality, but for its overwhelming commercial success, earning more than 1.3 billion dollars in revenue worldwide. And it was also a before and after for its two protagonists, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who achieved great popularity, although not exactly for the better… And both actors have spoken with suspicion on many occasions about their participation in the saga, even recounting unpleasant chapters. This is the case of Dakota Johnson, who did not hesitate to explain how painful some sex scenes were.
Both Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey are very attracted to each other, so they don’t hesitate to fulfill their darkest fantasies through sex. And on many occasions, it was really hard for the actors. This is how Dakota Johnson herself recounted it, explaining that she even ended up with physical consequences after repeating the same takes over and over again.
“Jamie was throwing me on a bed. We did 17 takes, so my head just snapped back all day and when I woke up I couldn’t move my neck. [It] was really terrible” explains Dakota Johnson.
His co-star was also aware of the situation: “I don’t think I injured myself ever” explains the actor about his role in the Fifty Shades of Grey saga. “But I think Dakota came out a little bit worse! I think she has been vocal about how she was bruised up after a couple of days when stuff got a little bit real in the Red Room” explains Dornan.
The first installment was so successful that Focus and Universal didn’t hesitate to greenlight the next two films, thus completing the trilogy: “They made so much money that the second and third were given the green light overnight. It was strange because there was something ridiculous about it and now, by contract, I had to make two more, knowing that there was more punishment ahead,” concludes the actor.
