After the novel Fifty Shades of Grey took the world by storm, it was not a matter of if, but when it would become a movie — and that “when” was 10 years ago. As we mark the movie’s anniversary, it’s easy to forget that when Dakota Johnson was cast in the role of Anastasia Steele, it was a huge departure for the young actress, who’d never done anything that required so much eroticism. The same was also true of Johnson’s co-star, Jamie Dornan. And as they navigated through a new kind of acting adventure together, Johnson really appreciated what Dornan brought to the role. At the time of the film’s release, she spoke glowingly of how Dornan’s portrayal of Christian Grey brought a sense of youthful playfulness into a role that could have been interpreted so much differently.
