Chicago Fire: Will Jesse Spencer return to Chicago Fire in 2023?

Will Jesse Spencer return to Chicago Fire in 2023?

Chicago Fire is full of surprises. Few expected the fall finale to end with Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) buried underneath a mountain of rubble. Their fate is still unknown, which is another instances of the show’s writers keeping fans off balance.

Another unknown element of the show heading into 2023 is the presence of one Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer). The character has technically not been seen since the season 10 finale, but he’s frequently mentioned by the 51 squad, which leads us to question whether a return is in his future.

Will Matt Casey return to Chicago Fire in 2023?

Fire showrunner Derek Haas has not let any details regarding a Casey return, but he has made it clear that he’s open to the idea. During a recent interview with TV Insider, he was asked about the possibility of seeing Casey again, to which he responded: “Can you call Jesse Spencer for us and just tell him that you said that so that we can make that happen? That sounds great to me.”

Haas’s enthusiasm for the idea is encouraging, especially when one considers that Spencer has posed for IG photos with several of the cast members since he left the show. It’s clear he’s still close with the Chicago Fire team, which would make his involvement that much easier.

There’s also the fact that Spencer has made cameo appearances via voicemail, so even if we don’t get to see him, we might hear him.

We’re pretty confident that Casey will return to Chicago Fire at some point, but the way things are shaking out with Brett (Kara Killmer), we don’t expect it to be during season 11. There’s been a lot of time spent on Brett getting over Casey, and trying to date again, so the notion of bringing the character back so soon would serve to undo a lot of that progress.

It would make more sense for Brett’s maturation to play out, and her current dating arc to conclude, before the writers decide to bring back everyone’s favorite (ex) firefighter.
