Police officers descended on Gordon Ramsay’s Los Angeles home after a hoax 911 call falsely reported a gunman opening fire at the celebrity chef’s property.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed it responded to the call at 8.40pm on Tuesday after an unidentified person claimed there was an active shooter at Ramsay’s Bel Air mansion.
But when officers arrived, they found no signs of a disturbance.
According to TMZ, neighbours also reported that nothing unusual had occurred at the house.
Ramsay, 58, wasn’t at the property during the incident and is believed to be the latest high-profile victim of “swatting” – a dangerous prank where emergency services are tricked into sending armed units to someone’s address under false pretences.
The LAPD has launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.
The Standard has contacted Gordon Ramsay’s rep for comment.
This isn’t the first time the Hell’s Kitchen star has been a victim of crime.
Earlier this year, he revealed thieves had made off with hundreds of ornaments from his London restaurant Lucky Cat
The Asian-inspired eatery in Mayfair, which opened in 2019, features maneki-neko, traditional Japanese cat figurines said to bring good fortune, as part of its decor.
But Ramsay said nearly 500 of the lucky cats were stolen in just one week.
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, he said: “The cats are getting stolen. There were 477 stolen last week – they cost £4.50 each.” That’s a loss of over £2,000.
Despite the hefty haul, City of London Police told the BBC at the time it had not received any reports of the theft.
Elsewhere, Ramsay is set to give Great British Bake Off a run for their money by launching rival show Next Level Baker.
Last month, it was reported that he pocketed £25m to launch the spin-off series on Fox in the US later this year, following the success of his show Next Level Chef.
Speaking about his latest project, Ramsay said: “I’m delighted that Next Level Baker is coming to Fox later this year.
“A holiday special, where passionate home cooks, more used to crafting treats for their family, will compete against social media creators; individuals who fill our feeds with photo ready creations, side by side with talented professional pastry chefs, impressing with Michelin starred perfection.”
Two more series of Next Level Chef are included as part of the deal with the TV network.
