NCIS is wrapping Season 22 this Monday, May 5, and the show has some major things planned, according to series star Wilmer Valderrama. The actor who plays Nick Torres appeared on CBS Mornings and discussed the upcoming season finale with the show’s hosts. Valderrama revealed that the season-ender features a major death that will shake up the show’s main crew. “Somebody does die, and it’s not the murder of the week. It’s somebody very … unfortunately … very close to us and it’s going to be very earth-shattering and really heartbreaking,” the actor said. He refused to reveal who the victim is, even when his character was floated around as the potential victim. The death will have far-reaching consequences beyond the episode and into the succeeding season. “The biggest idea was to say ‘how do we disrupt the peace of Season 22 and set out the tone for Season 23,’ and this episode does that better than we’ve done in many years,” Valderrama teased.
“As NCIS investigates a dangerous connection between the Nexus cartel and Parker’s (Gary Cole) longtime nemesis, mob boss Carla Marino (Rebecca De Mornay), the team uncovers a high-stakes plot involving stolen nuclear material. With time running out, Parker is forced into an uneasy alliance that could determine the fate of the operation – and his own future,” reads the logline of the episode “Nexus.” Valderrama said the episode ties together all the hanging storylines from Episode 19, “Irreconcilable Differences,” while setting up the upcoming season. “We decided let’s do a two-part season finale, so the first part was last Monday. Big big questions … and then next episode answers all these questions,” he said.
‘NCIS’ Will Be Back This Fall
NCIS is one of CBS’ top performers despite being the oldest show on the roster. Even after two decades, it pulls great numbers, averaging 10.5 million viewers per episode. The show was renewed for another season that will premiere this fall. Given Valderrama’s comments, viewers should expect the explosive Season 22 finale events to greatly influence what happens in Season 23. Besides Valderrama, NCIS stars Cole, Katrina Law, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, and Rocky Carroll. Steven D. Binder serves as the showrunner. Tune in to CBS on Monday, May 5, to watch “Nexus” and see how everything plays out, including who dies. You can also catch up with past episodes on Paramount+ in the US.
