Blue Bloods: New Young Adult Vampire Series in the Works Based on Popular Novels

A new television show based on the best-selling Blue Bloods series of vampire novels is officially in the works courtesy of Paramount’s Awesomeness.

Per Deadline, the series is currently being developed by Awesomeness, owned by Paramount Digital Studios, under the working title of Blue Bloods, the same as the novel series by author Melissa de la Cruz. Blue Bloods is slated to be written and produced by Jacquie Walters, while Richard Abate, 3 Arts Entertainment’s Katie Newman Krandel, The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, and Cruz will serve as co-executive producers on the series.

The next tense psychological thriller starring Nicolas Cage slated for a 2025 release date courtesy of Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions.
Cruz’s first novel in the series, also titled Blue Bloods, was released in 2006 through Hyperion Paperbacks. The novel quickly amassed a dedicated fan-base, and has since spun off into a sprawling franchise unto itself. The complete Blue Bloods collection currently comprises of seven mainline novels, one short story, one novella, and a companion novel, as well as the Witches of East End spin-off series consisting of three novels and the Wolf Pact companion series consisting of four novels. In 2013, Blue Bloods: A Graphic Novel was added to the list, which was published on the same day as the final novel in the main series, Gates of Paradise.

Blue Bloods Follows a Vampire Society in New York City

Blue Bloods takes place largely within the bounds of a version of New York City that is secretly ruled by the ranks of an elite, secretive vampire society. The series focuses on Sky, a 17-year-old half-vampire who becomes the latest newcomer to the mysterious Duchesne Institute amidst the return of an overly evil and ancient breed of vampire long thought gone. “I am so excited to bring my beloved Blue Bloods series to life,” Cruz said of the project before adding that “Awesomeness, Gotham, 3Arts and our incredible writer Jacquie Walters who understands my story and characters deeply. Cannot wait to see them on screen at last!!! LFG!!!”

Walters, who was nominated for an Emmy in 2020 for her work on Amazon Studios’ Just Add Magic: Mystery City, stated, “I am thrilled to be bringing Blue Bloods to life with Melissa and the teams at Gotham and Awesomeness.” Walters continued, “It is a rare treat to work on a project with such a loyal fanbase, and we have had so much fun reimagining this story for the present-day, as it is the juiciest combination of romance, mystery, and lore. Gotham’s passion paired with the exceptional vision of those at Awesomeness make a dream team to bring this story to the screen.”

Abate and Goldsmith-Vein also spoke highly of the novels and the upcoming adaptation, noting, “Blue Bloods is a special book series that 3Arts and Gotham have carefully developed with the hope of finding the kind of success in television that the books enjoyed both critically and commercially. Jacqui Walters is our dream writer: equally adept at creating complex characters and building big memorable worlds.”

The Blue Bloods adaptation does not currently have a planned release date.
