A new ‘Blue Bloods’ show is in the works, but it has nothing to do with the Tom Selleck series

Welcome the new Blue bloodParamount-owned production company Awesomeness has begun developing a show based on Melissa de la Cruz’s best-selling YA book series of the same name.

Despite the same title, this Blue blood has no connection to the CBS cop drama starring Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg. Instead, the new film Blue blood focuses on an elite group of immortal vampires who secretly rule New York City, Deadline reports.

New ‘Blue Bloods’ Will Be Based on Melissa De La Cruz’s Book Series

Instead of providing insight into the families of NYPD officers, Blue blood follows Sky, a 17-year-old newcomer to the prestigious Duchesne Academy. The first half-vampire, Sky was previously exiled from the Blue Bloods and must find her way in the world. Meanwhile, the city’s vampires face an existential threat as an ancient and evil breed of vampire resurfaces. (Maybe they can call in Frank Reagan to fix this mess?)

Jacquie Walters will write and executive produce the new show, which does not yet have a network. De La Cruz will also serve as an executive producer.

“I am so happy to bring my beloved Blue blood “The series is coming to life with an amazing team at Awesomeness, Gotham, 3Arts and our incredible writer Jacquie Walters who understands the story and my characters so deeply,” she said in a statement. “Can’t wait to finally see them on screen!!! LFG!!!”

De La Cruz has also written books that have been adapted into Lifetime series. The Witches of the East End and a series of books inspired by the Disney Channel series Descendants.

“90% of the things I make never get published—so it’s so exciting to be able to share one of my projects with the world!! (And with Melissa’s many fans!) We’re cooking up something GOOD for you all, stay tuned,” Walters shared on Instagram.

The final episodes of ‘Blue Bloods’ will begin airing on October 18.

While the existence of two Blue blood It might be a little confusing, but it seems like fans of both won’t have too much trouble telling them apart. Plus, the CBS show will wrap up its final season this fall, before Blue blood was put on TV.

The final eight episodes of the top-rated drama will air on Friday, October 18. It’s the end of an era for the cast, some of whom — including Selleck — have made it clear they want the series to continue. While CBS says it has no plans to cancel the show, “franchise extensions” are in the works. But it will be a while before anything makes it to TV.

“We have to get it right so we’re taking our time and trying to figure out, OK, what’s the next iteration of Blue blood?” CBS Studios president David Stapf told Deadline. “We have a whole season to celebrate throughout the season how good the show is, so we still have time to figure that out.”
