A Glimpse Into 1989: What the Steel Magnolias Premieres Really Looked Like!

“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a very bad mood for 40 years,” Ouiser Boudreaux (Shirley MacLaine) hollers in “Steel Magnolias,” a movie that has put us in a weepy mood for more than two decades. We’ve loved every tear. Directed by Herbert Ross (“Funny Lady,” “Footloose”) and based on a play written by Robert Harling, “Steel Magnolias” opened 25 years ago this week.
