Jamie Dornan has revealed he quit drinking for part of 2020, as he began ‘doing it all the time’ during lockdown and his wife Amelia Warner has stopped.
The Fifty Shades of Grey actor, 38, interviewed his friend, Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson in the Winter 2020 issue of Wonderland Magazine, during which he shed some light on his own life at the moment.
Revealing that his wife, who he wed in 2013, was ‘off the booze’, he explained that he had decided to quit ‘for the craic’ and to show support.
He said: ‘I have decided not to drink for the rest of the year. I’m on day 5 – I know, I look so good – but I am trying not to just for the craic. After his confession, Eve then queried: ‘What’s the point of not drinking?’
Jamie went on: ‘That’s something I am asking myself! Because my wife is not really drinking, Millie’s been off the booze for a while actually…
‘So it’s kind of to support that a wee bit. It’s just you get into such a thing of doing it all the time particularly in lockdown’.
Jamie and Amelia are parents to Dulcie, seven, Elva, four, and Alberta, 21 months.
Last year, Jamie spoke about his alcohol abuse, as he detailed how he battled depression and turned to alcohol after the tragic deaths of his mother and four friends in the space of one year.
He just 16 when his mother Lorna died from pancreatic cancer in 1998, with the star enduring further tragedy when four of his friends died in a car crash one year later.
Speaking to Jay Rayner on his podcast, Out To Lunch With.., the Fifty Shades of Grey star admitted he is ‘still dealing with both’ tragedies two decades later.
He said: ‘Yeah my mum died when I was 16 that was obviously a life-altering, insane, horrendous thing to happen. Then four of my mates killed themselves in a car crash when I was 17.
‘I had a very rough couple of years that I guess I’m still dealing with both of [those] things today, every day.’
Jamie said that he had turned to alcohol to deal with the heartbreak he had suffered.
