He is set to hit the big screen in his third outing as Christian Grey this week, as Fifty Shades Freed enjoys its highly-anticipated international release.
But Jamie Dornan, 35, has ruled himself out of returning to the racy film franchise – based on author E. L. James’ popular novel series – in the future, as he claims he’s ‘getting too old’ to reprise his role again.
During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine on Monday, the heartthrob said when asked if he was finished with Fifty Shades: ‘Yeah I think so, there’s no other books. We’ve done the three… Unless Erica writes more… I know I’m getting too old for this.’
‘I think I like him more now than I did in the first movie,’ he said. ‘I think he’s gone through a big change in his own way… I think he’s a better version of himself. Awful stuff happened to him… I find him more palatable in the third.’
The father-of-two said: ‘I do I get it a lot, especially in the States…. I’d be in a pubs and someone calls me “Mr. Grey” and have a lot of specific Fifty Shades Of Grey references with my kids there.
‘The lines are a wee bit blurred about what is reality and what the fantasy is. I think I’ll get it for another while.’
His interview comes days after he appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ US chat show, where he revealed that his wife Amelia hasn’t yet seen him in the risqué franchise.
The screen star explained: ‘I don’t want to pay for a ticket for her to like… you know.’
When Ellen enquired if it’s because she doesn’t want to see it, he said he doesn’t want to pay for a ticket for her to watch him as the seductive Mr. Grey.
She then asked if it’s hard to come home around Valentine’s Day – which is when the Fifty Shades films are usually released – and see him like Christian Grey and ‘being that guy and you got to live up to that’.
Jamie said: ‘I’d like to think she’s more in love with me than that guy. I know she hasn’t seen the movies or anything.’
However, during his follow-up interview on Lorraine, Jamie did say that he and his wife will likely watch the films when they’re much older, stating: ‘We have this idea of watching them when we’re much older in our 70s and screening them.’
Jamie and Amelia, an actress and singer, married in 2013 and are parents to two daughters: Dulcie, born 2013, and Elva, born 2016.
