Fans of Grey’s Anatomy character, Levi Schmitt, played by Jake Borelli, will be happy to know the doctor is back helping out his former Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital co-workers.
Us Weekly reported that Levi returned to see Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) make it down the aisle during the May 8 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. A clip from Season 21, Episode 17 shows Levi questioning Jo’s bold makeup choice for her big day. When she replies it was Link’s mother’s choice to put blue eyeshadow on her, Levi quips, “Does she hate you?” He then assures that he would help Jo with the situation. In addition, he let Jo know that he and his boyfriend, James (Micahel Thomas Grant), have adopted a labradoodle called Ann Richards, “named after the former governor of Texas.”
Borelli, who joined the show during its 14th season, confirmed his departure from Grey’s Anatomy in 2024. In a November 2024 Instagram upload, Borelli shared his gratitude and sadness about leaving the series after eight years.
“Tonight is my last episode as Dr. Levi Schmitt, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have shared this experience with all of you over the last 8 years. I was heartbroken when I found out this storyline was coming to an end, but I will never take for granted just how much this character has done for not only myself but for people all over the world,” wrote Borelli in the post’s caption.
He also shared that he has an appreciation for Levi for several reasons.
“When I was growing up, the idea of seeing an out gay man play such a well rounded, fully formed, and courageous gay character felt like a pipe dream for me. I never would have guessed that I would be the one to get the opportunity to do just that,” continued Borelli in the caption. “Levi has taught me that when you lead with vulnerability and have the bravery to fully step into your authentic self, the world will open up for you in ways you never could have imagined. I’m so grateful to have held hands with Levi through my own journey of acceptance, and I want to thank—from the bottom of my heart—all the people who helped bring this character to life and who put their necks on the line to tell this story on such a large and iconic platform as Grey’s Anatomy. I love you all and I will continue to champion authentic queer stories till the very end.”
