Deceased comedians Redd Foxx and Andy Kaufman will return to the stage –- sort of -– in a hologram tour set to debut next year, the company behind the shows announced on Friday.
Hologram USA, which has previously created hologram versions of Jimmy Kimmel and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, said it will be creating shows with the two comedians that will tour across the country.
Foxx died in 1991 and Kaufman died in 1984. But their hologram likenesses will make appearances at venues across the U.S. starting in 2016, the company said, as well as at the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York. The New York Times first reported on the plans.
“Who knew that the persistent rumors that Andy Kaufman would return from death would come true?” Hologram USA chief executive Alki David said in a statement. “We have the opportunity to resurrect him and present his genius with the same vitality and joy that his first audiences experienced 40 years ago. As for our other debut comedy hologram legend: Redd Foxx is a hero who helped change the game not just in comedy but in how Americans talk about race and sex.”

Kaufman’s antic career included a performance on the first episode of Saturday Night Live, occasional wrestling matches and the character Latka on “Taxi.” Foxx was beloved for his raunchy brand of humor and his role on NBC’s “Sanford and Son.”
