Catherine must choose between love and work as two doctors face conflicting emotions.

It was a night of forgiveness and second chances on Grey’s Anatomy!

On the April 18 episode of the ABC medical drama, Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) would have done anything to get back in the good graces of Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen). After Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) informed him that he didn’t want to meddle in the situation because he thought it would “do more harm than good,” Lucas took matters into his own hands.

However, Catherine was unimpressed by him going overboard — and ignoring the importance of bedside manner — in the clinic.

Lucas was dealt another blow when their patient Navy, a 14-year-old girl, was uncomfortable being examined by him because as Catherine said he was a “cute boy.”

“I just want to impress her, but now she won’t let me near the patient,” he told Bailey, to which she responded, “Do you really think you can get her to change her mind about your remediation? I couldn’t.”

Putting the Patient First
Bailey diagnosed Navy with a transverse vaginal septum and Catherine realized the patient was not “equipped” for the traditional treatment method and demanded they look for other options.

After telling Lucas to find a better plan, Catherine said, “You think I’ve been oblivious to your antics all day. You want to impress me, Dr. Adams, do something impressive.”

When Lucas discovered another surgery that had been done in Australia, Bailey told him, “You found it, you will do the procedure.”

“If he does well, would you consider keeping him with his class?” Bailey asked Catherine.

“I punch above my weight in every discipline… Look, I know I made a mistake with Sam Sutton, and I’ll think about him every day for the rest of my life. Isn’t that punishment enough?” Lucas added, referring to Sam’s death after he went rogue and performed a procedure without permission.

“Let’s see how you do, then we’ll talk,” Catherine responded.

When Navy found out that Lucas was doing the procedure, she appeared shocked and said, “I thought Dr. Bailey was doing my surgery.” Seeing the look on her face, Lucas put his own future at risk and faked getting an emergency page and told Navy that Dr. Bailey would be doing the procedure after all.

After Catherine found out about his decision, she told him, “What you did today, giving up a personally important procedure for the benefit of the patient that requires sensitivity and good judgment, which, if you recall, is where I thought you had a deficit.”

She then informed him, “You can remain with your class.”

New Beginnings
Richard and Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) raced to help Beau, the window washer, after his platform crashed through the pediatric floor window.

After Beau lost consciousness, they intubated him upright because he was still stuck on the platform. When Beau’s wife Lia arrived at the hospital, Winston mistakenly referred to her as his mother due to their age gap.

During surgery to repair his carotid, Jules Millin (Adelaide Kane) questioned if they needed to call neuro when a complication occurred. However, Winston jumped in to save the day.

After the successful procedure, Jules was thoroughly impressed by Winston’s skills, telling him, “You just walked a tightrope without a net.” He replied that he would never do such a thing as he had a fear of heights.

Despite his reservations, Jules brought Winston to the hospital’s rooftop and told him, “Look what you miss when you never take in the view.”

He then looked at Jules lovingly and offered his jacket when she said she was cold.

The moment didn’t last long as they were immediately questioned by Richard about their visit to the rooftop. He told Winston, “You need to be careful. You never know what could happen up there.”

A New Roommate?
After Benson “Blue” Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) threw out the idea of renting Mika Yasuda’s (Midori Francis) old room, Simone Griffin (Alexis Floyd) angrily responded, “I was thinking of asking Lucas to move back in. It’s my house too.”

Blue and Simone didn’t stop arguing when they arrived at the hospital. Richard had enough when they continued to fight in the operating room, saying, “I’ve been here since 4 a.m. covering other people’s shifts, I’m already tired, and now I’m distracted because of whatever the hell is going on between the two of you.” He proceeded to kick Blue out of the surgery.

Simone later confronted Blue about treating their home like “a bachelor pad,” but he had his complaints about their living situation. He said, “At least I’m not kissing my boyfriend all over the house. No one wants a couple making out across a breakfast table.”

Later, Blue apologized for his actions and told her that Lucas could move into their house, but he couldn’t “stay for free.”

Simone then raced to ask Lucas to move in, but before she could, he revealed that Catherine was allowing him to stay in their class — and he had big plans for their future together.

“Now we’ll finish our residency at the same time. We could look into doing a couples match for fellowship…We could do holidays with my family, and then we can come back here and see your granny when we have more time off,” he explained.

She appeared overwhelmed and didn’t ask him to move in after all.
