‘She’s Just Not Ready’: Ellen Pompeo Shares the Surprising Reason Her Daughter Can’t Watch Grey’s Anatomy

While ABC’s mainstay medical drama romance series, Grey’s Anatomy, may not be the most risqué show on television, its star says she’s waiting a bit before letting her young daughter tune in. Per Variety, Pompeo, who has starred as Dr. Meredith Grey, on Grey’s Anatomy since 2005, touched on why she won’t let her 10-year-old daughter watch the show during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Pompeo, who was on the late-night show to promote her new Hulu true-crime series, Good American Family, said her older daughter has seen the show, but not her younger one. “My 15-year-old has seen it. And now my 10-year-old wants to see it, which, she’s not ready, but a lot of kids in her class have seen it,” Pompeo said. She continued, “No judgment on other parents, but I don’t want my daughter to see me in my underwear just yet, but her classmates have, so…that makes for great conversation at pick-up.”

“(Hollywood) is a super weird place in that way, but also a really incredible place at the same time because these kids look all around them, and they see a bunch of people whose dreams came true. And they believe their dreams, too, can come true,” she added.

Max’s The Pitt is attentive toward authentically portraying the healthcare profession, which other modern medical shows can’t relate to.

Grey’s Anatomy Marks Milestone Year

Grey’s Anatomy is marking its 20th anniversary in March, as it premiered March 27, 2005. Pompeo, who is married to record producer Chris Ivey, and has three children, has not been a series regular since she stepped back a bit in Season 19, but she continues to narrate the show and serve as executive producer.

Medical dramas deliver exactly what they promise, but there’s also the added knowledge that they will also deliver on many medical mistakes.

Pompeo Will Star in a True-Crime Mini-Series

Fans will see a new side of Pompeo in her new limited Hulu series Good American Family, which premieres on March 19. In the series, inspired by the true story of Natalia Grace, Pompeo plays Kristine Barnett, who, along with her husband Michael Barnett, played by Mark Duplass (The Morning Show), are adoptive parents of a child who may not be as she seems.

The official logline for Good American Family, via series creator Katie Robbins, reads: “Told from multiple points of view, as a means to explore issues of perspective, bias, and trauma, this compelling drama is inspired by the disturbing stories surrounding a Midwestern couple who adopts a girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, a mystery emerges around her age and background, and they slowly start to suspect she may not be who she says she is. As they defend their family from the daughter they’ve grown to believe is a threat, she fights her own battle to confront her past and what her future holds, in a showdown that ultimately plays out in the tabloids and the courtroom.”
