Did the April 9 episode of Young and the Restless remind you of anything?

There was a new episode of The Young and the Restless on Wednesday, April 9. We know there was. It said so in the viewer guide, and when we checked, there was also an episode yesterday, Tuesday, April 8. So why, then, did it feel like we’ve been trapped in a Genoa City version of Groundhog Day for months now?

The Beginning
Groundhog Day is a 1993 movie where Bill Murray plays an obnoxious weatherman who is forced to relive the same day over and over again until he becomes a better person and deserves Andi McDowell falling in love with him. (Does Andi McDowell want to fall in love with him? That’s not up to her. Murray’s name is above the title, so what he wants is all that matters.)

We don’t know how long he stays in that loop. Some say a few weeks, some say a few months, and then there’s the theory that says it’s thousands of years. We know what that feels like because that’s where we are with Y&R.

The Middle
Yesterday, Nick (Joshua Morrow), Sharon (Sharon Case), and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) wondered if Alan (Christopher Cousins) might be his evil, presumed dead twin, Martin, and if he was the one who held Sharon and Phyllis prisoner. Nick found some evidence that he handed over to Chance (Conner Floyd).

Today, they…did the same thing. Yesterday, Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Jack (Peter Bergman) wondered if Alan might be his evil, presumed dead twin, Martin, and if he not only kept Sharon and Phyllis prisoner but also conned Traci (Beth Maitland) into marrying him. Today…they did the same thing.

The End
This has to end sometime, right? This same conversation between the same people can’t continue forever, can it? Bill Murray was eventually freed from his neverending day. Will the people of Genoa City end up getting out more quickly?

What do you think? Is Alan really Martin? Or, perhaps, does Alan have a split personality? Or did Martin live when everyone thought he was dead, and they’re both still alive? There are a few ways this could go, and perhaps we’ll find out soon. Let us know your theories in the comments below.
