April 8, 2025 — New York City — After 14 seasons and more than a decade on the air, CBS’s long-running police procedural Blue Bloods is coming to an end. The beloved drama will air its final episode later this year, marking the conclusion of a series that has become a staple of Friday night television.
The final episode, titled “Fog of War,” is expected to deliver emotional moments, character resolutions, and the return of familiar faces. Showrunner Kevin Wade confirmed that former Reagan family members and past characters will appear in the finale, though specific names have not yet been revealed.
Set in New York City, Blue Bloods follows the Reagan family—a multigenerational household of law enforcement officers and public servants. Led by Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), the family includes detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), ADA Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), and officer Jamie Reagan (Will Estes). The show has long been praised for its combination of crime-solving and family-centered storytelling.
In the upcoming finale, Danny and his partner Baez (Marisa Ramirez) will team up once again with Texas Ranger Waylon Gates, played by guest star Lyle Lovett, to investigate a case involving the elusive “Lone Star Killer.” Meanwhile, a serious incident involving Eddie Janko’s partner—who mistakenly shoots an undercover cop—will create further tension within the NYPD.
The show’s iconic family dinner scene, featured in nearly every episode since its premiere in 2010, is also expected to play a significant role in the finale. Known for sparking deep conversation and showcasing differing points of view, the Sunday dinner table has become one of the most recognizable and beloved elements of the series.
Over its 14-season run, Blue Bloods earned a loyal fanbase and maintained strong ratings, consistently ranking as one of CBS’s top-performing dramas. The series struck a unique balance between crime storytelling and family dynamics, helping it stand out in a crowded television landscape.
Tom Selleck, who has portrayed Frank Reagan since the pilot episode, has said in previous interviews that he’s proud of the show’s longevity and its message of integrity, duty, and moral responsibility.
CBS has not yet announced any potential spin-offs or continuations of the Blue Bloods universe, but network executives have acknowledged the series’ cultural impact and enduring popularity.
The series finale of Blue Bloods is scheduled to air later this spring.
