General Hospital’s Kidney Health PSA: Informative or Cringe-Worthy?

Stella gave us kidney health info. Was it helpful or out of place?
General Hospital was suddenly trying to let people know to take care of their kidneys. While the information was helpful, the conversation felt out of place for some viewers.
Who Knew?
Most of us probably weren’t aware that March happens to be National Kidney Month. We do now because GH tried to make sure of it.

One minute, Stella (Vernee Watson) and Tracy (Jane Elliot) were sipping tea and plotting against Drew (Cameron Mathison). Next, Stella was giving a lecture on the importance of kidney health. She was headed over to GH to get checked and she recommended her friend do the same. Tracy is in the middle of a crisis with her dead relatives being dug up, but she took a moment to hear Stella, who is one of the only people she will listen to.
Then, the social worker went to her appointment with Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis), where they once again had a long discussion about kidneys. Most of us probably don’t think too much about our kidneys, so the information was helpful. It may even save a life or two, so kudos to GH for bringing awareness.
On The Other Hand
While the info was important, it left many viewers scratching their heads. Why were these characters suddenly lecturing us about our health? We watch soaps to escape, not to be reminded of what can go wrong. Plus, the conversations felt a little forced and out of place.

One Facebook user posted, “What was with the PSA for kidney disease? I mean, I’m glad they are spreading awareness, but that was awkward.” Another user replied, “I thought they might be setting us up, quite bluntly, for a new hospital storyline. Definitely weird and forced.”
Others welcomed the PSA, “Over the years GH has inserted little health PSAs like that from time to time…The show is called General Hospital after all.” Did you appreciate the information? Let us know in the comments section.
