Now, a report from Puck claims that a new Yellowstone spinoff is currently in development from creator Taylor Sheridan, although no story details have been revealed as of writing. The Beth and Rip-focused series is set to start filming sometime this summer as well, with the show also looking to cast an actor with a similar role to Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. The report also emphasizes the number of ideas for new seasons of ongoing shows alongside ideas for new shows Sheridan has, both in and beyond the western’s shared universe.
What Yellowstone’s Spinoff Updates Mean For The Franchise
The Main Series Was Just The Beginning
At the end of Yellowstone, Beth, Rip, and Carter go to Dillon, Montana to start a new ranch, leaving their old life behind to explore the new challenges ahead. The show filming this summer means it won’t be long until more concrete news about what to expect from the series arrives. It will join the likes of 1883 and 1923, as well as forthcoming spinoffs The Madison, 1944, and 6666. These expansive plans for the series are seemingly just the start, however, with another untitled series also now in the works.
1923 season 2 is already establishing ties to other Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone projects, including one that was confirmed to be in development.
Taylor Sheridan also created the ongoing Paramount+ shows Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman.
Our Take On Yellowstone’s Continued Expansion
How Many Shows Will Sheridan Juggle?
News of a new spinoff coupled with a filming window for Beth and Rip’s show emphasizes how many plans Sheridan has for the western franchise. Even with the original series finished and 1923 ending this year, he has at least five spinoffs in development from the Yellowstone franchise alone. It’s an impressive feat to have so many shows running at the same time, emphasizing how the series is far from finished telling its many Montana-based stories.
