It’s an excellent day to be a fan of 9-1-1. While the show’s spinoff series 9-1-1: Lone Star ended its run after five seasons, 9-1-1 is continuing, and new episodes are back tonight.
On the evening of March 6, 9-1-1 returns with the midseason premiere of Season 8. The season has been on hiatus since the midseason break on Nov. 21, eight episodes into the current season. In the new episodes, per the logline, “The 118 responds to a fire at a local animal shelter and races to evacuate all the animals; Maddie takes a 9-1-1 call that sets her on a quest for answers.”
“I mean, I could tell you how it’s going to play out, but then I’ve ruined the story. We’re going to hit the ground running and we’re going to hit the ground really hard. No one will be spared chaos,” co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear told Entertainment Weekly about how the midseason premiere episode will be very intense.
9-1-1 Is Back on TV Tonight
The show making its return follows the recent developments that were made on the next spinoff in the works for the franchise. While 9-1-1: Lone Star is finished, another spinoff is moving forward that will be set in Nashville, Tennessee. The spinoff is set to debut during the 2025-26 season, giving fans of 9-1-1 something else to look forward to. Additionally, it’s been revealed that 9-1-1 will be having a crossover with Doctor Odyssey.
“There’s a lot of tension in the upcoming episodes between characters that we don’t often see tension between,” Evan “Buck” Buckley actor Oliver Stark previously told TODAY about the new storylines. “We’re going to be looking at what happens when you kind of start to tug at a thread, and, you know, it keeps on pulling and pulling, and you kind of watch a lot of things unravel as that goes.”
On what he was most excited for fans to see, the actor added, “Episode 11 I think is really special. Not even just because of story, but one of our own directed it. One of the cast directed it, which is the first time that’s happened on the show. So that was a really special experience for me. Not me the director, me the actor on the show. It’s not me. I think I’m really excited for that to air, just because, I just think it’s a really special moment, and it’s this particular actor’s first time doing it. So, yeah, just, it felt like a big moment.”
