Cyrus met his match in Joss and it cost him his life.
Jeff Kober, the man behind the villainous Cyrus Renault on General Hospital, is opening up about his character’s shocking demise. After years of scheming, chaos, and a surprising spiritual journey, Cyrus met his end in a dramatic final scene that Kober calls one of his best on-screen deaths.
A Villain Fans Loved to Hate
Since his arrival in 2020, Cyrus Renault wreaked havoc in Port Charles. The ruthless drug lord turned self-proclaimed man of faith had fans questioning his every move. Was his newfound piety real, or just another manipulation tactic? From targeting Sonny (Maurice Benard) to his complicated relationship with siblings Martin (Michael E. Knight) Laura (Genie Francis), Cyrus kept viewers on their toes. And let’s not forget the jaw-dropping moment when he was revealed as Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) killer, sealing his fate in the soap’s latest twist.
“I’ll Miss It!”
Kober recently reflected on his character’s end in an interview with Soap Opera Digest, revealing that he hadn’t fully processed the loss yet. “You know what? I’m just now starting to process it because I shot five episodes on January 15th, and on January 16th, I flew to India for nearly a month and had all the experiences that one has when one goes to India for nearly a month. I miss going to work, I miss the people, I miss the process. I gotta tell you, I love acting on a soap. It’s so dangerous for an actor to let go and let the scene happen, and General Hospital gave me an opportunity to practice that letting go, day after day after day, and I relished that. And I will miss that.”
But despite his departure, he couldn’t help but praise his final moments on the show. “We had fun and I have to say — I haven’t seen it, but from being in it — I’ve died many times in many different storylines, and I think this is perhaps one of my best deaths.“
Goodbye…Forever or For Now?
The actor also shared his appreciation for the freedom the sudser gave him as a performer. “It’s so dangerous for an actor to let go and let the scene happen, and I relished that,” he said. While fans will certainly miss Cyrus’ sinister presence, it’s clear Kober has nothing but gratitude for his time on the show.
Could we see Cyrus back from the dead? In the soap world, anything is possible! But for now, fans will have to say goodbye to one of GH’s most complex villains.
