The 67th Annual Grammy Awards witnessed some jaw-dropping fashion moments on the red carpet. Kanye West’s Wife Bianca Censori did make a scandalous statement. But amidst this, there were some fabulous couture pieces that were worn by the guests. American rapper Queen Latifah wore a Rahul Mishra couture gown, fresh off the Paris runway, which was created in the designer’s atelier in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. According to Mishra’s official Instagram page, she wore “The Reverberating Metropolis” – a floor-length cape featuring three-dimensional structures that represent skyscrapers, with hand embroidery in thread and sequin work, from his Couture Spring 2025 Collection, The Pale Blue Dot. The creation took over 1,200 hours of work by artisans to complete. As the designer explained, “The look features precisely sixty-six pyramidal structures of four different sizes to form the futuristic silhouette.”
The inspiration for The Pale Blue Dot came when Mishra, as a father and son, began reflecting on the issues impacting the world, particularly the urban spaces affected by man-made climate change. “What happens when these cities become ghost towns?” he mused. The collection was showcased at Paris Haute Couture Week and was named after American astronomer and planetary scientist Carl Sagan’s poignant meditation on Earth’s insignificance in the vastness of space. The collection is both a tribute to our planet and a contemplation of human existence. As Mishra puts it, “This collection is born of loss and the slow process of healing. It envisions our foreseeable future through rear-view mirrors and paints vivid images of wild animals reclaiming our homes as their own. The glorious geometry of human dwellings transforms into new life, emerging from the womb – an evocative metaphor for my hope that humans will indeed find the wisdom to enhance the meaning of our own lives.”
