While talking to Deadline about Bridgerton (which she also produces) and Grey’s Anatomy, Beers addressed the possibility of a Private Practice reboot. The producer admitted that she misses the spinoff show and “sometimes” thinks about doing a reboot, with fellow spinoff Station 19 also being mentioned. However, there are some elements that have stopped her. Check out what she said below:
The way I feel about it is you always try to do something new, and you have something new to bring to it, then it’s a way of looking at it. But one of our rules or mantras, is we only want to do things that we want to watch, and we want to expand and explore into worlds that we have not worked before.
What This Means For Private Practice
Shondaland Hasn’t Forgotten About Private Practice
In the same interview, Beers also touched on the possiblity of Grey’s Anatomy season 22 and beyond. Her take is that “there are always new cases” and new people coming in, which makes the hospital a setting with unlimited possibilities. She shared that the show would continue as long as “people want to watch it.” Private Practice, on the other hand, primarily revolves around Addison and her friends’ practice during its run, which on some level limits the show’s potential.
In 2022, Rhimes shared that Private Practice is the show that she most wanted to reboot. She revealed that she didn’t feel the stories were finished by the time the show concluded, and there was so much more left to explore with those characters. Back then, Beers and Walsh echoed her sentiments. It seems like the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff has been on everyone’s minds these two years, which means that fans might end up getting a reboot someday in the future.
Our Take On A Private Practice Reboot
It Hasn’t Happened For A Reason
Private Practice established itself with its unique identity apart from all Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs. Addison was already a world-renowned surgeon by the time she entered Grey’s Anatomy, and her spinoff reflected that. It featured a group of more established doctors. Private Practice tackled mostly mature topics in comparison to the early adulthood focus of Grey’s Anatomy‘s interns. With Derek’s sister, Amelia Shepherd, a part of both casts, the two shows have some great crossover episodes and storylines. On the other hand, the spinoff series did have a very satisfying ending.
