Along with the news that The Office reboot has been ordered to series at Peacock, the first story details reveal that the new mockumentary-style series is set in the same universe as the NBC version of The Office. The duo also executive produce alongside the team behind the original U.K. version of The Office, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille). are also producers on the project. The reboot hails from Universal Television, one of the studios behind the American version of The Office.
Although it’s still early days on The Office reboot, it might be the case that the premise will lend itself to a meta, winking commentary about the dangers of trying to recapture old magic. As it currently stands, no former cast members have yet been announced as reprising their roles. But considering the connective tissue between the two shows, that’s a clear possibility.
