3 Chicago Fire characters we might say goodbye to in 2023

Chicago Fire has made a point of introducing and axing characters at a moment’s notice. It’s one of the things that makes it stand out: at any given time, a firefighter could perish in a blaze or decide to move on from the 51 and start a new life somewhere else.

It’s exciting, but it also makes it nerve-racking for audiences. We never know which of our favorite characters is going to leave, and which of them are going to go down swinging in a shocking bit of heroism.

As such, we’ve decided to get ahead of the grief and break down the characters who are most likely to leave the show next season.

Is Emma Jacobs still on Chicago Fire?

Emma Jacobs is an interesting case. The character, played by Caitlin Carver, was an antagonist through much of season 10, and when she finally got the boot, it seemed as though she’d be gone for good. Then, in the season 11 fall finale, she returned with a new position and a chipper attitude that creeped out the main cast.

While the showrunners have discussed bringing Jacobs back, and hinted at the role she will play for the rest of season 11, we’re fairly confident that she won’t be sticking around past the specific story arc she’s been given. Jacobs is someone we love to hate, and that doesn’t bode well when looking forward to season 12. The character’s days are numbered.

Is Dylan still on Chicago Fire?

Dylan (Christopher Allen) is an intriguing presence on Chicago Fire. We know very little about him so far, but he has been the first person to get Brett (Kara Killmer) out of her shell since her break up with Casey (Jesse Spencer). We’ve seen him mainly through Brett’s eyes, or mentioned by her when asked about her love life at the 51.

The thing is, Dylan feels like a temporary fix. He seems like a decent person, but the writers have done very little to flesh him out beyond his service to the Brett arc. Generally, when long term love interests are introduced on the show, more is done to make them feel significant.

We get the distinct feeling that Dylan is more of a rebound than the real thing.

Is Mouch still on Chicago Fire?

We know, we know, it’s blasphemy to suggest that one of the show’s beloved characters might walk away without proof. Here’s the thing, though: Mouch is approaching retirement age and the actor who plays him, Christian Stolte, has revealed that this will play into a season 11 storyline.

Several Reddit users have theorized ways in which Mouch can stay at the 51 past retirement, and the fact that so many theories have been put forth suggests that the fear of his departure is very real. We don’t want to see him go, but it does seem like we’re headed towards an era in which Mouch will no longer be fighting fires.
